Yottaa (web performance provider seen here) and Zeroload (a French Web consultancy) today announced the first international Web Performance Contest.

To participate, register as a contestant, download the real world webpage example selected by the organizers, optimize the site, upload the optimized site and you will be able to see the optimization results immediately online. Winners will be decided using open web performance measurement tools, as well as manual checks by a selected group of judges. 

“The growing importance of web performance is well documented, from the fact that Google now incorporates page load time into search engine rankings, to Mozilla’s ability to increase Firefox downloads by 15 percent, simply by decreasing load time by 2 seconds. Smart companies such as Google have been using web performance as a competitive differentiator for many years”, said Vincent Voyer, Zeroload's founder. “However, many other businesses have not fully realized how performance can be the secrete sauce. We are organizing this first international web performance contest to help more people take advantage of the opportunities enabled by faster web sites”.
