Calpont officially announced the latest version of its InfiniDB high-performance analytic database, known as InfiniDB 3. Most notably, the third generation of InfiniDB will extend its speed and scalability with Amazon EC2 support and parallel data load for big data analytics deployments.

InfiniDB was originally designed for large scale and high performance dimensional analytics, predictive analytics and ad-hoc business intelligence. A massive parallel processing (MPP) columnar solution, InfiniDB executes SQL written queries as parallelized map and reduction operations; this helps to ensure that users get the best out of their analytics in terms of scale and performance.

The solution's third version offers features to help businesses capitalize on various data structures and deployment variations that meet their unique needs for flexible and scalable Big Data architecture, as well as being easy to deploy and maintain.

It does this by scaling for Big Data by provisioning run-time operations on Amazon EC2, allowing prepackaged Amazon Machine Images to speed up deployments with the automatic provisioning of InfiniDB nodes on EC2. For when organizations undergo rapid growth, InfiniDB 3 also comes with transparent support of EC2 virtual storage and data redundancy to meet Amazon EBS policies.

This new generation also simplifies Big Data loading with new parallel load options that companies can customize and scale in the manner most efficient for their operations, ranging from a simple single bulk load command to parallel bulk load commands that treat the data source as independent or shared. In addition, automatic data distribution is able to occur over a suite of shared-nothing disk resources and grow linearly with tiers of data sources, files and commands.

InfiniDB 3 will be available in April.
