Domain name registrar GoDaddy is offering up 14 new extensions for pre-registration.
Businesses are now able to pre-register .Estate, .Photography, .Ventures, .Guru, .Bike, .Clothing, .Gallery, .Singles, .Camera, .Lighting, .Plumbing, .Equipment, .Graphics and .Holdings.
It's difficult to forecast which, if any, of these domain name extensions are going to be popular among the general digital population but .singles is one that is already of great interest to many professional domainers. The extension is likely to offer general access and provide a much lower registration fee than an extension like .ventures, which is already at a price point topping hundreds of dollars per year.
To have a unique presence and differentiate themselves from the competition, expect many brands to be more than willing to pay up for these distinct extensions.
“The new names give businesses an easy way to establish a credible and memorable identity,” said GoDaddy Vice President of Domains Mike McLaughlin. “In order for small businesses to be successful, a strong online identity is a must. The new name options can help provide quick and easy context for a business. If you think about it, domain names are essentially 21st century real estate – it is the online address given to customers, friends and family.”
