That is according to 52.3 percent of the 600 respondents who were queried via SurveyMonkey as part of the Sedo sponsored gTLD Awareness Report. The goal of the research was to uncover whether small to mid-size businesses (SMBs) are aware of the pending launch of new gTLDs in 2013 and whether they plan to take advantage of them. Sixty-three percent of those surveyed are unaware that new gTLDs will be available in 2013 and many do not understand what the value of these new addresses will be. Nearly half either saw no advantage or were unsure what the advantage of a new gTLD would be. The findings tend to be particularly useful, because 63.7 percent of the respondents have purchased domain names in the past, and the survey audience understands the importance of the correct domain name to their business’ success. Even so, a resounding 94.1 percent said they were not currently planning to purchase a new gTLD, and there were very mixed results when it came to what would persuade them to purchase one (see image). So what exactly are new gTLDs? They are brand-new domain extensions that will increase domain name choices to include descriptive strings, such as .blog, .book, .hotel, which can help in brand awareness and general memorability. Major brands, like Amazon, are feverishly applying for new gTLDs with plans to use them, but this research by Sedo makes it clear that a successful...(read more)

Sedo Dot CO Auction Worth a Look

Domain name marketplace and monetization provider Sedo is auctioning over 150 premium .CO domain names from November 12th through the 19th. The list of .CO’s in auction is actually quite impressive, including robot.co, gadget.co, hot.co, real.co, among others. Most of the .CO domains in auction have reserve prices starting at $500 but reserve prices for many of the more appealing listings range from $10-25,000. This premium auction is being held in honor of Global Entrepreuership Week. .CO Internet, the registry for the dot CO domain extension, is even auctioning 50 of its own premium reserved .CO domains. “The global startup community has really embraced .CO domains since they were introduced in 2010, with companies like Twitter, Angel List, Google and 500 Startups helping to drive adoption and consumer awareness,” said Liesbeth Mack-de Boer, Sedo’s Chief Sales Officer. “With such heavyweights paving the way, .CO has become the premier choice for startups who may not be able to register legacy extensions which are often more cost-prohibitive or already registered. For entrepreneurs and start-ups, this premium .CO auction provides a great opportunity to purchase a domain that will help grow their business.”...(read more)

New GoDaddy, Sedo Deal Offers Access to Millions More Domains

Domain marketplace Sedo extended its partnership with GoDaddy, giving customers of the registrar and hosting provider the ability to purchase previously owned premium domain names that Sedo users have listed as "Make Offer." Sedo and GoDaddy's initial partnership, which began in January 2012, only featured "Buy Now" listings

The domain/website is currently owned by consumer credit and identity protection service FYI Direct. The site was originally registred in 2001 and developed into a provider of foreclosure information and foreclosure listing service, before becoming a lead generation platform (aggregator) for daily deal vendors.

“FYI Direct currently owns thousands of real estate foreclosure-related sites. From Sedo: “In reflection of investments in our tools and services and an increased demand for highly personnel-intensive brokerage, we will increase the commission on successful domain sales enabled by our sales team from 10% to 15%. This change goes into effect on January 4, 2011.”

Sedo is essentially just increasing the commission rate (by 50%) on sales where one of their sales broker is involved and the result is a sold domain.

As you might imagine, high volume sellers are none too pleased – particularly as a result of the lack of notice on the part of the domain broker.

Some good news for the domain name industry. Domain name marketplace Sedo announecd the results of its Q3 2010 Domain Market Study and transaction volume remains strong with 10,085 sales during the quarter, a 1.58 percent increase from the same period a year earlier, and accounted for more than $24.5 million in sales.

Fixed-price auctions accounted for 28 percent of transactions and Offer/counter transactions account for 42 percent. The average sale price (which has grown for the third consecutive quarter) is $2,033. The most popular generic top level domain continues to be .com with 74 percent of all sales, following by .net with 11 percent, .org with 8 percent, .info with 5 percent and .biz with 2 percent.

“As more people become aware of the opportunities in domain investing, fixed-price sales will continue to gain popularity. It’s a great way for novice investors to get involved in the market,” said Jeremiah Johnston, chief operating officer of Sedo.com. “It’s also an extremely attractive tool for businesses or marketers who have to budget expenses up-front for a new site or landing page, and want to leverage the power of a short, memorable domain that can increase SEO and siphon natural type-in traffic.”

The auction begins on Sedo.com on November 11, 2010 and ends on November 18, 2010.

“An increasing number of companies and individuals across the globe are learning the value of using .ME for their online campaigns. Its growing popularity can be attributed to the domains ability to capture people’s attention because they create simple and effective catch phrases and “call-to-action” website addresses,” says Predrag Lesic, CEO of the .ME Registry. “We are excited to be working with Sedo to support the growth of this exclusive domain and show how the right domain name is critical to the success of any online campaign.”

The .Me domains including the Sedo auction include Shop.Me, Try.Me, Track.Me, Money.Me, Movie.Me, Office.Me, Account.Me, Note.Me, Kids.Me, Health.Me, Finance.Me, Sms.Me, History.Me, Text.Me, Friend.Me, Green.Me.
