With Facebook Connect, websites are able to integrate the world's largest social network, and its approximately 800 billion users, directly into their websites. Now, 3dcart wants to bring that same functionality to online stores.

The Facebook Connect add-on from 3dcart will display a button on the "My Account" and "Checkout" pages, and when visitors click said button, they'll automatically log into their Facebook accounts. This will help online retailers increase conversions, because it allows customers to quickly and efficiently sign in without having to create unique IDs and passwords, which is often referenced as being a major barrier for online sales.

This feature also bolsters a retailer's social media efforts, providing them with access to customer data and social graphs that let them see audience behaviors and interests. Plus, buyers will be able to share their purchases with their Facebook friends, so it also supports free advertising intiatives.

Finally, the solution opens up more opportunity for personalized interaction with customers, allowing those customers that utilize it to give retailers the chance to target recommendations towards them based on their purchasing history and interest-based information, which could also help increase conversions in the long run.

For first-time customers and those who don't want their personal information saved after they buy something, there is the option to fill out their payment information separately to ensure there are no privacy issues down the line.

3dcart's Facebook Connect feature is available now for $199.

Bing has added a new feature this week that integrates Facebook with Bing Shopping search results. Users can now create a shopping list on Bing and then post the list to their Facebook Wall to get feedback from friends and family.

Shoppers now have the option to click an “Add to List” button for any product they find on Bing. A shopping list module will appear on the bottom left of the screen, allowing users to keep track of the products and share them with their friends and family via Facebook.

The idea, says Bing, is to make the core search experience more social by allowing users to enlist their Facebook friends for help with purchasing decisions. Shoppers can seek advice from friends with specific expertise such as gadgets, or publish a wish list on their Facebook Wall to give family members a nudge for the holidays.

The new Facebook integration is the second such announcement from Bing in recent weeks, coming on the heels of the search engine’s deployment of several new Facebook features last month. These increasing integrations between search and social create convenient new features for users, and it seems that Bing and Facebook are continuing to explore the possibilities.
