The reason most of us believe in the Internet is because it presents opportunities that did not exist before. If you have a good idea, determination and a desire to work smart, any business can prosper on the Web. In 2004, there were approximately 24.7 million businesses in the United States according to the Office of Advocacy (Small Business Administration). Of that 24.7 million, 99.9% had fewer than 500 employees and the most recent data shows that there are only 17,000 large businesses (businesses with over 500 employees). What this means is that there is room for small business on the Web, the problem is how to get them there. The Internet presents unparalleled opportunities for small businesses but are the barriers to entry at this point in time simply too great? Website Services Magazine wanted to know and has compared the Big 4's Local Search Products to understand the opportunities being presented to small businesses looking to maximize their marketing dollars and how they can actually do so.
