The National Hockey League (NHL) has announced a deal with YouTube to provide video content and advertising to the newly-purchased website.
Initially, footage provided will include game highlights and non-game clips from on and off the ice. The NHL will now be able to take advantage of YouTube's content identification and reporting system in order to protect its copyrighted images and content. The NHL will also be able to remove content from the site and share revenue from ads placed alongside video content - a much needed revenue source for the NHL after struggling the past several years.
It's also interesting to note that the NHL boasts players from 20 different nations, giving the video clips a reach far beyond the United States.
