Starting as early as next Wednesday, Yahoo! Search Marketing will be switching the length of the description fields for ads from 190 characterss to 70 characters. If you don't change those ads before the end of June 2007, Yahoo will automatically cut off your ad description at the nearest complete word, followed by an ellipsis when it is displayed on Yahoo!. Not making these neccessary modifications could negatively impact your performance and potentially lower your position in their search results.
Things to keep in mind:
- Titles will continue to have a maximum of 40 characters.
- Short descriptions are required when creating or modifying an ad. Short descriptions must consist of 70 characters or less.
- Display URLs must be 35 characters or less.
There is a good write up called "Think Short" on the Yahoo! Search Marketing Blog that is certainly worth a read if you're a Yahoo advertiser.
