Human Guided Search Meets Video Search

Video search engine blinkx this morning announced a distribution aggreement with ChaCha, a search engine which uses human guides to assist users seeking information. ChaCha will provide its users with rich media (e.g. video) search results from blinkx which can be searched automatically at ChaCha or in real-time with the support of a human guide. ChaCha joins more than 150 blinkx partners utilizing over 7,000,000 hours of indexed video and audio content.
blinkx is interesting as it uses speech recognition technology to deliver results rather than standard metadata-based keyword searches (like Youtube). I have used ChaCha in the past but was not overly impressed with the information offered by their human guides. Perhaps it was the complexity of the query, but this distribution agreement, which offers access to more and deeper content (something which is desperately needed for ChaCha in my opinion) could end up providing users a very rich experience.
"We're continually looking for ways to 'turbo charge' our search capabilities," said Scott Jones, CEO of ChaCha. "We offer users the best of the Web, the benefit of human intelligence and can now offer one of the top video search experiences available on the Web today."
