Microsoft announced the introduction of two new free online services for Windows Live: Windows Live Folders and Windows Live Photo Gallery. I think it's fair to say that Microsoft is taking Google and Yahoo much more seriously, and will now begin leveraging its existing market position for software running on computers to these new Web delivered services.

Windows Live Photo Gallery is a new version of the photo application found on Windows XP and Windows Vista which enables users to share photos on Microsoft's social networking platform Windows Live Spaces.

Windows Live Folders will provide up to 500 megabytes of online storage in the United States in a limited test release, giving users the ability to share documents.
