Cybersquatting Becomes an Issue for ReadWriteWeb

Popular industry blog ReadWriteWeb appears to be in the midst of an escalating battle over their rights to the brand name, and URL extensions over that name. In this thread, it appears that a foreign company is looking to take advantage of RWW's brand for their own benefit. What ensues is a very interesting case of potential cybersquatting and a possible attempt at extorting RWW for extensions of their dot-com URL.

Now, this can be an issue that every website owner might face at one point or another. What do you do when someone purchases extensions of your domain name? Do you have any legal recourse, and even if you do, what is it worth to fight this battle?

For Website Magazine readers, this incident couldn't be more timely. Be sure you are signed up for a free subscription, because we'll be featuring an article covering this exact issue of cybersquatting in our upcoming February issue.
