Domain Prices Will Increase
Registering and renewing domains is about to get a little more expensive.
Verisign, which manages the generic TLD's (top level domains) .com and .net will
increase the price of base registration fees. VeriSign announced that the
registry fee for .com domain names will increase from $6.42 to $6.86 and that
the registry fee for .net domain names will increase, from $3.85 to $4.23.
Verisign has said that the increase is necessary as significant investments are
required to increase security measures and sustain the growth of the traffic
volume due to Web connected wireless devices and other services. VeriSign
processes a peak of more than 33 billion DNS queries per day under normal
traffic conditions.
