Elance released its Online Work Index report for April 2009. The report lists the top 100 skills in demand for current job postings. The list is definitely something to consider for those looking to advance their skills to make them more marketable in a tough job market - including soon-to-be-graduates. The top 10 skills are a good mix of technical skills and creative skills with PHP and MySQL ranking 1 and 2 respectively, and graphic design and article writing ranking 4 and 5 respectively. Social media continues to grow, as Twitter skills made the first appearance on the report ranking at 93. Facebook skills increased by 10 from the previous report.
In addition, Elance lists whether the skills have increased or decreased in demand and by how many points. The report is based on more than 100,000 jobs posted on the site in the last few months.
Elance offers professionals 250 skills tests for free on its site. The report notes that more than 13,000 skills tests were taken in March.
