Online Video Hits Record Numbers - Again

At ad:tech Chicago earlier this month, video was a hot topic. In August, comScore released data that online video reviews hit record numbers in July with 21.4 billion videos watched. comScore released its newest data today on online video for the month of August and it smashes July’s record. August had more than 25 billion videos viewed with 161 million U.S. viewers – that number was 158 billion in July.

Again, Google took the top spot with 40 percent of all online videos watched – YouTube was 99 percent of video watched at Google. The following sites ranked in the respective order: Microsoft (2.2 percent); Viacom Digital (2.1 percent); Hulu (1.9 percent); and Fox Interactive Media (1.5 percent).

Another interesting finding from the report was that 81.6 percent of the U.S. Internet users watched video online. That’s an impressive number.

If you’re not offering video on your site, do these consistent increases encourage you to do so? Comment below.

I've watched maybe five streaming videos in the last month, and only watched about two of those to their conclusion. That's more than I've ever watched in any month.

We've seen significant growth in our Pay Per View platform with the number of views increasing each month. In fact, September was our biggest month ever with views up 120% over August. A lot of this is due to the fact that we are signing up producers each week with interesting, valuable content that people are willing to pay for. And, of course, people are looking to the web for video. If you have interesting and compelling content and want to monetize it in the purest way on the internet....contact us at Youreeeka dot com.

I don't know too much about watching shows online, although that's all the "TV" my daughter watches, but I can tell you about business videos.

My company FilmMaker Etc produces 1-2 minute Internet videos for small businesses and we've seen a steady rise in demand. We are located in the DC area and we're currently shooting 5-7 a week! The vast majority of our business is referral too! Our customers are seeing a real bump in website effectiveness and they're telling their friends.

Every significant site on the web will have at least one video eventually.
