Links to Your Site Report Enhanced at GWT

Google Webmaster Tools has updated its “Links to Your Site” feature to show which domains are linking to a website. The improvement should provide those responsible for maintaining competitive link profiles with a greater ability to track changes and understand where links to their site are coming from.

The overview page currently shows three sections – who links the most, how you data is linked, and your most linked content.

Selecting the “More >>” link under the “Who links the most” section reveals a new view that shows all the domains that link to your site. The individual listings can be expanded to display the actual pages from your site which are linked to by that domain.

Webmaster can also see the actual pages that are linked to most often. From the overview page users can see a listing of all a site’s most linked page and a link count for each page (as well as a count of domains linking to that page). When one of the pages is selected and expanded you are able to see domains linking to that page and the number of links to the page from each domain listed. Google is now including links redirected using 301 or 302 HTTP redirects to make the reports more comprehensive.

Funny how you can NOT notice something like this until someone writes a article about it!

Just went over and checked it out. Looks like an excellent addition.

In the last line of the article, it states that Google is "no including links redirected by 301 or 302 HTTP redirects to make the reports more comprehensive."  I'm guessing the "no" in that sentence should be "now" which would make the tool fantastic.

However, if the "no" in that sentence is a "not" then the tool has a lot less worth since many social networking links use link shorteners (such as bit.ly) that use 301 redirects.  Consequently, these links would not show up in the report.

If the author reads this post, please clarify if that word should be "now" or "not"...that one word makes all the difference.

Thank you,

Tom

Do you have any idea what percentage of the links Google finds will be shown in the reports?  Historically it's been pretty low.

This is a great addition to GWT.  Yahoo used to be the industry standard in learning which backlinks had been indexed, but now it appears that Google has jumped to the head of the line.

I would never have know this. Thank you so much!

yeah, I checked it too. It's a great addition and very useful in keeping trace of both inbound and outbound links
