Dropbox is introducing a new direction for its cloud storage service – taking aim at small and medium-sized businesses with the launch of Dropbox for Teams.
The new service allows five users to access one terabyte of shared cloud storage for $795 a year. There is also an option to add additional users for $125 a year, which includes an extra 200 GB of storage space.
Dropbox for Teams provides an easy way for workers to access files on-the-go, from any computer and at any time. The service is also safe – it is password-protected, backed-up and uses many of the same security technologies that banks use.
According to the company, "Your files are actually safer while stored in your Dropbox than on your computer in some cases."
After signing up for Dropbox for Teams, members will have the option of converting an existing Dropbox account or creating a new Dropbox for Teams account. To keep a personal and work account separate, simply sign up for the Teams account with a work email address. Additionally, the upgrade to Teams allows users to keep all of their existing folders, files and applications – so no new downloads are required.
This new service is expected to be welcomed with open arms in the business community, especially since many have been using the cloud storage service to transfer files and documents within their businesses already.
