The recently released 2010 e-commerce data from comScore shows an industry annual growth rate of 9.8 percent, marking a significant improvement over the 0.2-percent decline in 2009. The fourth quarter was the strongest of 2010 with an 11-percent rate of growth, while the first three quarters posted rates of 10 percent, 9 percent and 9 percent, respectively. The industry still has a way to go, however, to match the respective quarterly numbers of pre-recession 2007, which were 17 percent, 23 percent, 23 percent and 19 percent. Computer software, consumer electronics and toys and hobbies were among the top-selling e-commerce categories in 2010, and home furnishings and sports and fitness were among the lowest performers.
