A Facebook Group is similar to a conventional forum you see all over the Internet. Facebook Groups existed well before Facebook Fan Page and in many cases Facebook groups can out rank Facebook Fan Pages when a Facebook search is performed. However, Facebook is admittedly favoring and actively promoting their Fan Pages. So it’s highly recommend you start a Facebook Fan Page over a Facebook Group. Not to say that if you have Product/Service/Cause that is going to solicit a lot of group participation you shouldn’t start a Facebook Group. Just be sure to start a Facebook Fan Page as well. That also means if you have an existing Facebook Group It’s ok, start a Facebook Fan Page and invite your Group members to join the new Fan Page. Keep in mind that once you’re Group has over 5,000 members you lose the ability to Facebook Message your members. So there are advantages to keeping the group intimate.
