Silicon Valley-based recruiting firm Riviera has seen developer salaries increase 7 to 10 percent over the past two quarters and states that today’s senior engineers are receiving multiple offers of employment. By comparison, salaries for developers over the past few years remained steady with typical increases of between 2 percent and 4 percent. What’s more, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that while the national unemployment rate hovers at more than 9 percent, the unemployment rate for technology professionals has dropped from 5.5 percent in January down to 3.3 percent in July – with 40 percent of workers being hired in social media and online advertising technology positions.
