China’s ecommerce market will surpass the United States by 2015, according to research by the Boston Consulting Group. The firm is confident in its estimation that China’s online retail industry will become the world’s largest sooner rather than later, largely because of its soaring Internet population. Other reasons include the limited reach of brickand- mortar stores in China, better selections and bargains than local competitors can offer, and because the Web is a more trusted platform by Chinese consumers. As Website Magazine recently advised (“One Billion People”, December 2011), now would be an awfully good time for retailers worldwide to tap into the explosive Chinese ecommerce market.
