The last five blocks of Internet addresses that use the original IPv4 protocol system were handed out to the five Regional Internet Registries in February. That means that the Web will be moving from the original protocol system to the new IPv6 system when the remaining 60 million IPv4 addresses are assigned to owners throughout the five regions — which could take five to ten years. Business and website owners will at some point have to adapt their systems for IPv6, and World IPv6 Day has been planned for June 8 to start building awareness.
