Google recently revamped its YouTube property to give the video-sharing site a more businesslike look and social feel. The company appears to be reinventing YouTube as a more personalized service that will deliver a more television-like experience with the new emphasis being on channels and social media integrations. New features include prominent buttons on the navigation bar for Facebook and Google+ so that users can share (and see what is being shared) with their friends on these networks, and the site now has an algorithmically determined recommendation bar intended to better personalize the viewer experience. Users are now more likely to be funneled toward specific content channels, much of them — coincidentally — produced by Google’s corporate media partners.
