The world spam rate hit nearly a three-year low, afflicting “only”
70 percent of emails in November 2011, according to a report from
security software and services provider Symantec. The recent
spam level is close to the lowest reported spam rate of 2008,
which was 68 percent, and is also far from the highest spam level
reported in 2009 of 90 percent. While the U.S. spam rate is just
below 70 percent, Russia has the highest spam rate at almost 77
percent. As for specific sectors that have been spam targets, the
automotive industry was the most spammed in November 2011 at
a rate of 73 percent, while the spam rate for small to mediumsized
businesses reached 69.4 percent.
