Over the past several years, eBay’s core e-commerce business has been called antiquated and increasingly inefficient by many of its longtime sellers. In response, CEO John Donahoe announced a three-year plan in February that he called The New eBay; pointing to a faster website, more relevant search results and many more improvements. Other aspects of The New eBay will include a continued, growing focus on PayPal, the enormously successful eBay-owned leader in the payments industry, and other initiatives across mobile, local and social commerce. How much attention is really given to the marketplace business of Old eBay under the progressive label of New eBay will be an important storyline to follow.
