WordPress is looking to take its game up a notch by
including advertising on its blogging and websitecreation
platform, and seemingly going after Google
in the process. Via a partnership with Federated
Media, WordPress has launched its own Google
AdSense alternative, WordAds (not to be confused
with Google’s AdWords — or is it?). “We’ve resisted
advertising so far because most of what we had
seen wasn’t terribly tasteful,” says WordPress representative
Jon Burke. “You pour a lot of time and
effort into your blog and you deserve better than Ad-
Sense.” For the foreseeable future, only publicly visible
blogs with custom domains will be included in
the WordAds program.
