The Pepperjam Network, a division of GSI Commerce, launched efficient click pricing (ECP) last week and it may just signal a return to CPC based compensation for affiliate marketers.

Merchants are now able to compensate publishers (affiliates) for driving traffic to their stores on a cost per click (“CPC”) basis which is "governed" by the quality and conversion metrics of the affiliates traffic, rather than a CPA model exclusively. When creating ECP campaigns, merchants will have the ability to select which publishers to work with on a CPC basis as desired, and publishers will be invited to participate in these campaigns. Historical conversion rates, new customer acquisition, and average margin on products sold are just some of the data points used to establish ECP rates at Pepperjam through the program.

“The affiliate marketing industry is constantly evolving and both merchants and publishers need the flexibility to structure relationships based on a variety of performance metrics. Our efficient click pricing capabilities bring new opportunities to all qualified partners on the Pepperjam Network,” said Steve Denton, president of GSI Media and Pepperjam. “With any successful partnership, rewards should be based on desired activities and results. Using efficient click pricing will provide many of our partners the ability to further optimize their performance marketing relationships.”

Consolidation continues to be a significant Web trend in early 2011 as e-commerce and marketing solutions provider GSI Commerce has acquired advertising analytics and attribution management firm ClearSaleing.

The purchase will further broaden the offerings of GSI’s Global Marketing Services (GMS) division, which now has eight leading marketing services companies in its portfolio and most recently bought ad retargeting firm FetchBack in June for $40 million. Terms of the ClearSaleing acquisition have not been disclosed.

ClearSaleing’s Attribution Management product has been recognized as an industry leader for its ease of use and custom analytics, appealing to a wide range of clients such as American Greetings, Rosetta, Range Online Media and Nationwide Insurance. TrueAction, one of the full-service digital marketing firms in GSI's GMS division, has been using ClearSaleing’s platform for the past year to help its clients improve efficiency and increase productivity from automation and reporting.

ClearSaleing will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of the GMS division, which also includes FetchBack, TrueAction, M3 Mobile, MBS Insight, Pepperjam, Silverlign and e-Dialog.

GSI Commerce, a leading e-commerce and marketing company based in King of Prussia, Pa., has purchased retargeting ad technology provider FetchBack for an undisclosed sum. The Tempe, Ariz.-based FetchBack creates industry-leading scalable technology that delivers targeted messages to online visitors after they’ve left a website, enabling marketers to recapture lost prospects.

The acquisition of FetchBack will complement GSI’s e-commerce business while expanding the reach of its marketing services into new markets. GSI offers fulfillment and customer-care services as well as website enablement. In addition to retargeting applications, FetchBack also provides an analytics platform that gives marketers some of the industry’s best insight into their online campaigns.

FetchBack clients include True Religion, Pingg, Abacus 24-7, Grand Canyon University and Aqua Superstore. The company has one of the largest client bases in the industry due in large part to its 95-percent monthly retention rate. FetchBack will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of GSI’s Global Marketing Services division, which also includes sister companies TrueAction, Silverlign, GSI Media and e-Dialog.
