If you're using Adobe's Acrobat or Reader software to view PDF files, there are reports of a critical vulnerability that could cause the application to crash and potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected system.

Adobe 9 and earlier versions, as well as Adobe Acrobat Standard, Pro, and Pro Extended 9 (and earlier versions) are suspected to be at risk. Adobe is also working with antivirus vendors McAfee and Symantec currently to patch the holes, but patches, which are in the works, aren't expected to be ready until March 11, 2009.

If PDFs are integral to your daily Web work, you might want to consider installing alternative applications to handle viewing PDF files such as Sumatra and FoxIt.
