A new service from comScore offers reporting on digital traffic based on device, which includes computers, mobile phones, tablets, music players, e-readers, gaming devices and other Web-enabled devices.

Based on comScore’s global Unified Digital Measurement (UDM) data, which utilizes census-level information from tagged Web page content, the new service called Device Essentials includes comScore’s first publicly available data showing device activity by connection type and device category. Device Essentials will initially report exclusively on page view activity and is immediately available across all of comScore’s reporting geographies.

The number of different reporting dimensions available in the service provides answers to a variety of digital business questions. Reporting capabilities include the following:

• Share of smartphone and feature phone usage by OS
• Carrier share of smartphone traffic
• OS share of carrier traffic
• Traffic to site content categories by carrier, OS and device type
• Mobile HTML vs. standard HTML traffic by content by device type
• WiFi vs. Non-WiFi traffic

“Using comScore’s proprietary global UDM data set, we have been able to develop an expansive profile of traffic patterns across device type, connection type and geography which delivers the critical insight needed by wireless carriers, OEMs, publishers and app developers to optimize their marketing strategies and customer experience,” says Serge Matta, comScore’s executive vice president of telecom and wireless.

Digital business analytics firm comScore has announced the beta release of its new Media Metrix Total Universe report, which provides audience measurement for 100 percent of a site’s traffic, including usage via mobile phones, apps, tablets and shared computers such as Internet cafes.

The new report, available to comScore Media Metrix subscribers, will be released with April data in the U.S. and U.K. (with other global markets being released in subsequent months) for all publishers currently leveraging the comScore Unified Digital Measurement (UDM) tag. The initial report features standard comScore Media Metrix key measures, such as unique visitors, reach, and page views, providing an unduplicated view of site audiences across multiple media platforms.

“We are excited to introduce the comScore Media Metrix Total Universe report,” said Cameron Meierhoefer, comScore EVP of Analytics. “With digital media fragmentation occurring at an accelerating pace, it has never been more important for publishers to understand the full size and composition of their audiences and get credit for the traffic they're generating across all media platforms. This unique report enables publishers to demonstrate the value of their entire audiences and monetize their content irrespective of the access point.”

Publishers who currently leverage the comScore tag as part of Unified Digital Measurement reporting will be visible in the Total Universe report when April data is released. UDM tagging is required for participation. All publishers who do not currently tag but are interested in participating can visit comScore for more details.
