Data feeds are great tools for affiliate marketers who want to stand apart from their peers by offering and promoting an array of products from online webstores, which provides publishers with more content and opportunities to create conversions.

Because they give affiliate marketers a broad selection of potential products to feature, data feeds provide the ability to easily tailor rich product information, culled from a single distribution platform, into higher-converting content, which gives marketers a leg up on their competitors, especially those who aren't leveraging similar technologies. The more expansive the data feed provider's catalog is, the more choices marketers have for driving and monetizing traffic, because they have more products to offer for both general and long-tail searches.

This is why it is important for affiliates to take note of the expanding product catalog of data feed solution provider GoldenCAN, who have just announced a partnership with buy.at that will integrate the affiliate network's advertisers into GoldenCAN's existening product lineup. This will not only provide more options for marketers, but also more diverse options.

GoldenCAN, which offers a variety of data feed services like Store Integration, Coupon Integration and Search Integration, will integrate buy.at into its existing technology to create more fully-featured stores with enhanced functionality that will allow affiliates "to incorporate millions of products, thousands of coupons, and recent price drops."

Data feed management and feed optimization service provider SingleFeed released an add-on which allows retailers to include product submissions in Amazon.com’s Selling on Amazon program in addition to the comparison shopping engines SingleFeed already supports.

"This new add-on will expose a retailer’s products to an audience of more than 50 million visitors per month on Amazon, therefore considerably expanding the retailer's web presence. The product will automatically submit a retailer’s product catalog on its behalf and interact with the retailer to ensure that the quality of the merchandise listed is on par with Amazon standards. We will soon evolve the Amazon integration into our reporting dashboard so that our clients can compare performance across channels," said Ryan Douglas, Head of Marketing and Client Services for SingleFeed.

SingleFeed’s Amazon Add-on can be used with any SingleFeed Starter, Gold, or Premium plan.

Starting August 1st, ShareASale will be implementing a few changes to the format of datafeeds.

The new datafeed specification will allow merchants to make more product data available to their affiliates. The new specification introduces 15 new data columns to the affiliates using datafeeds. To make use of these new columns, you will need to alter the datafeed file that you send to ShareASale. Highlights of the new feed include 1) quantity discounts, 2) product cross-selling, 3) additional category fields, and 4) product options (including the ability to change the base price based on a given option).

In a move that will surely raise the interest (and perhaps ire) of the affiliate industry, Amazon notified its affiliates early this morning that starting May 1st, 2009, they will no longer be paying referral fees to Associates that send users to amazon.com, amazon.ca or endless.com through paid search (keyword bidding) practices.

In addition to not paying referral fees for paid search traffic, Amazon will no longer make data feeds available to Associates - a common practice for sending users to Amazon websites in the US or Canada via paid search.

This change applies only to the Associates programs in North America. Amazon’s Associates Programs outside of the US and Canada should refer to the applicable country’s Associates Program Operating Agreement for relevant terms and conditions.

Amazon is certainly not the first to prohibit its affiliates from using paid search as a means to drive traffic to listings, but they are without a doubt the biggest name in the industry to do so. The company decided to make the policy change after a review of its advertising resources.
