The world’s largest domain name registrar and the Web’s largest domain name marketplace have announced a partnership that will give users access to more premium domains than ever. When visitors search for domains at GoDaddy.com, matching names from Sedo’s marketplace will now also be displayed for potential buyers to purchase.

Go Daddy is the latest partner to join Sedo’s Multi-Listing Service, SedoMLS. The world’s largest domain name provider can now offer its customers the option to purchase domain names that are already taken as easily as they would register a domain for the first time. Sedo currently has 15 million domains for sale in its marketplace.

SedoMLS allows any domains listed at a “Buy Now” price to be displayed within Go Daddy’s search results, reaching the largest potential audience of domain buyers.

“As one of the most popular places worldwide for small business owners, entrepreneurs or individuals looking for the right domain name, we are thrilled to be partnering with Go Daddy,” says Sedo CEO Tim Schumacher. “Through our SedoMLS partnership, we can offer millions of domain buyers the widest choice of domain names, which will help them make the right decisions for their businesses, and purchase the names they need to find success online.”

Less than two months after one of the biggest domain launches in Web history, the .CO extension has nabbed more than 500,000 registrations to put it on pace to becoming the fastest growing domain extension in the world. And the demand is definitely being seen globally, as businesses, developers and entrepreneurs from nearly 200 countries have registered so far.

The success of the late-July public launch is undoubtedly due in part to the participation of some of the world’s leading domain registrars, such as GoDaddy, 1and1, Network Solutions, Dotster, MyDomain and several others. The U.S. has accounted for 37 percent of the new registrations, followed by the U.K. (17 %), Colombia (12 %), Australia (4 %) and Canada (4 %).

More than 2,500 .CO domains that had multiple bidders will be settled through an auction, and some of the notable sales thus far have included Mesothelioma.co for $76,000; Insure.co for $60,000; DuiAttorney.co for $44,000; Slots.co for $41,000 and UsedCars.co for $14,000.

Looking to add a domain name to your Web COmpany? You’re in luck, but you’d better hurry — live registrations are being taken right now for .CO domain names in one of the biggest domain launches in history. The domains are available to anyone in the world and are being taken through a select group of some of the most respected registrars in the business, but they will only remain available on a first come, first serve basis.

Participating registrars include GoDaddy, 1and1, Dotster, eNomCentral, OpenSRS, InterNetX, Network Solutions, MyDomain, Melbourne IT and others. The .CO extension is a short alternative to .COM that is universally recognized in more than 20 countries around the world, and domains start at $29.99 per year. One of the early adopters of the .CO domain name was Twitter, which is currently using its new t.co domain as a link service.

There are hundreds of programs available and now NameCheap is added to that list. NameCheap recently announced the launch of its an affiliate program due to the high amount of recommendations it receives from customers. Affiliates receive 15 percent from each new sale, with no limit on product offerings or quantity sold. This includes hosting, transfers and basically any time someone creates a new account, according to Michelle Greer with NameCheap.

Other domain registrars with affiliate programs include GoDaddy and Network Solutions, plus many more. GoDaddy affiliates receive 20 percent commission on new purchases, and Network Solutions affiliates receive 30 percent commission on new purchases and transfers.

NameCheap's commission may be lower than other programs in the market, but Greer adds the ease of use associated with NameCheap makes up the difference. "NameCheap is known for its easy user interface and checkout process," Greer says. "Plus it's an easy sell because when you buy a domain, you get an SSL cert for free."

Which domain affiliate programs do you participate in?

While the data only covers .com, .net, .info, .org, .biz, .us and .mobi, it does provide excellent guidance on who's leading in the very competitive industry of domain registration and who's falling behind.

Who were the three leading domain registrars so far this year?
- GoDaddy – up 8.42% to 34,453,064 domains (includes Wild West Domains, GD’s reseller unit)
- eNom – up 2.6% to 9,039,185.
- Tucows – up 3.3% to 7,432,309
- 1&1 - up 3.9

While those registrars mentioned above are increasing the number of domains they manage, others are losing some control. Network Solutions is down 1.1%, Melbourne IT is down 3.5%, Moniker is down 2.4% and Dotster is down 2.8%.
