NetApp, the cloud storage provider, recently brought the power of Amazon Web Services (AWS) to its customers.

The company’s new solution, NetApp Private Storage for AWS, will use the AWS Direct Connect service to allow enterprise users to establish a dedicated network connection that links their existing infrastructure to AWS. This means they can now replicate data from their on-premises NetApp storage environments in a Direct Connect facility.

Enterprise companies will now be able to use NetApp with a variety of AWS services, including Amazon EMR for more cost-effective big data analysis, disaster recovery deployments with Amazon EC2 and disk backup through Amazon S3, in addition to being able to seamlessly move enterprise applications to the cloud and between AWS regions.

Right now, there is a fear on the part of some enterprise organizations when it comes to
moving workloads (especially larger ones) to AWS, but by going through NetApp, which has been serving enterprises for 20 years, these companies may feel more comfortable using Amazon’s service.

“Our work with NetApp provides customers with the performance, security, compliance, and availability benefits of AWS with the high value enterprise offerings customers have come to expect from NetApp,” says Terry Wise, the head of Worldwide Partner Ecosystems at AWS.

Currently, NetApp Private Storage for AWS is available to select resellers in North America, but it should be available in Europe and Asia sooner than later.

Enterprise-level
companies have always been among the biggest proponents of cloud computing, likely because they are the most adept at and have the most resources to make such a drastic switch.

Understandably, then, these
businesses have been in the crosshairs of cloud services providers for some
time, and now one company is looking to give enterprises better privacy
while they’re up in the cloud.

Verizon-owned Terremark has officially
launched the Enterprise Cloud Private Edition, which is built on the company’s
enterprise-class architecture that powers its Enterprise Cloud solution. The
new Private Edition, however, works as a single-tenant environment that can
more effectively meet the security compliance requirements of large entities
like enterprise companies and government agencies.

Utilizing Terremark’s hybrid cloud strategy, Enterprise
Cloud Private Edition allows customers to migrate application workloads between
traditional and cloud environments in a seamless, secure way. This can include
an organization’s dedicated infrastructure, Terremark’s cloud platform or
third-party cloud resources. This means that when an organization that is
running a workload in the private cloud can easily connect to Terremark’s
public cloud offering during peak usage periods.

In addition, Enterprise Cloud Private Edition will also
adhere to Terremark’s open cloud strategy, offering users the option of using
multiple operating systems and private network integration through the company’s
carrier-neutral data centers.

“Our Private Edition solution is designed to meet the strong
customer demand we’ve seen for the agility, cost efficiencies and flexibility
of cloud computing, delivered in a single-tenant, dedicated environment,” says
the company’s VP of cloud products, Ellen Rubin.

The Enterprise Cloud Private Edition is available now.
