&lt;p&gt;&lt;img src="http://www.websitemagazine.com/images/blog/facebook-mini.gif" style="float:left;margin:10px;" height="73" width="73" alt="" /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Social network Facebook indicated that some significant changes are coming related to how it counts check-ins, providing &amp;quot;a more accurate picture of how people are visiting your business.&amp;quot;

Check-ins were previously counted in aggregate under the &amp;quot;were here&amp;quot; total. That, of course, caused multiple checkins and some check-in inflation (abuse) that these changes should correct &amp;ndash; if not eliminate entirely. 
&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
According to the email notification sent to page owners, Facebook will only count one check-in every 12 hours from the same user. 
&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
While your business may look less popular as a result of the change, many socially focused businesses should be in favor of the change as it could provide a way for a third-party (or Facebook) to build out some strong check-in reward systems.

No indication was given about when the new statistics would be available, but with the new Timeline feature officially here it should be arriving within days.&lt;/p&gt;
