Such was the case recently when both Authorize.net and PayPal went down within weeks of each other. Lost sales can be devastating. But there is a solution, in OrderDynamics' Order Management System (OMS).

The system effectively captures customer data at the time of purchase - before that information is sent to a payment provider. So, if the provider goes down at any time (or any hiccups with the retailer's website), all orders are stored for processing when the payment systems are again available. The system is also integrated with Google Checkout and PayPal, so any abandoned orders are stored as a customer ticket, which can then be used to send follow-up messages to the consumer to encourage the completetion of the transaction.

Google today launched what ultimately could be the most serious threat to PayPal yet.

The Google Checkout Store Gadget, a product of Google Labs, enables the creation of an online store that's powered by Google Checkout.
What eBay company PayPal did so well (which arguably changed the face of the commercial Web for millions) is simply the process of accepting payments. When a company with a trustworthy brand like Google comes into the market with a solution like this one, it once again changes the game. Why? The best part of the gadget is that inventory is managed in a Google Docs spreadsheet.

Merchants will need to have a Google Checkout seller account in order to process orders but the actual development side of this is a breeze. Just create a copy of Google's template spreadsheet and then replace the sample inventory with your own. Then embed the gadget on your website and you're on your way to e-commerce riches.

Here's how the Google Checkout Store Gadget looks:

Last week Google announced the availability of Buy Now buttons for the exclusive purpose of selling digital goods.
If you're an e-book seller or provider of individual software downloads you'll be very interested in this development.

What's so unique about Buy Now buttons from Google Checkout is that buyers (once their card has been successfully authorized) receive instructions on how to access the items purchased using the URL and "Key" you specified. This is big news in the world of "digital delivery."

A button creation wizard is available on the 'Tools' tab on your
Checkout merchant accuont - just select 'Digital Good' from the
'Describe your item' drop-down list. You can learn more about creating buy now buttons for Google Checkout in the Google
Checkout support section.
