Hostway announced today that it has partnered with IT automation provider Stratavia to launch NetDBAs, an enterprise-class database automation solution that aims to simplify the management of corporate databases.

The NetDBAs database automation tool automates routine tasks such as installing new databases, administering users, applying patches, and managing backups through a web-interface. The initial release will manage editions of Microsoft SQL Server database and future versions will add support for databases from other manufacturers.

“We are excited to launch this value added solution that will automate and simplify the most time consuming and repetitive tasks typically performed by database administrators,” says Todd Benjamin, vice president of Enterprise Hosting, Hostway.” With assistance from Stratavia we have harnessed high-end enterprise-class automation technology, simplified it, and deployed it in the cloud to be cost effective and versatile, solving a prevailing challenge for today’s efficiency minded corporations.”

Web hosting provider Hostway will begin rolling out a feature which lets its 1.5 million customers develop sitemaps and submit them directly to major search engines.

Through an integration with AutomaticSiteMaps, Hostway is enabling its customers to ensure that Google, Yahoo!, Bing and Ask.com have up-to-date, page-by-page information about their site. Hostway is the first Web hosting provider to integrate this new direct XML Sitemap submission technology. Hostway customers will be able to manage their AutomaticSiteMap service (including optional expanded service levels) from within their Web hosting control panel.

“This is the only system we found that can handle Web site submission on a massive scale to boost search engine rankings for all our customers. AutomaticSiteMap is an exact fit with the other technologies and services we provide to help our customers make more money online,” said John Lee, Hostway's senior vice president of small business hosting. “AutomaticSiteMap's turnkey system is directly integrated into our control panel and automatically delivered to our customers so that they can increase search traffic without taking any additional action."

While it's certainly neccessary to submit you sitemap to the search engines, I worry that should a customer change their hosting company they might lose access to their sitemap (especially since the system is "directly integrated" with Hostway's control panel). Perhaps someone from either company will clarify.

Web hosting provider Hostway announced the expansion its existing hosted storage solutions today with the availability of an Enterprise-Class Shared SAN (storage area network) product.

Shared SAN can augment existing hosted storage offerings including direct and network attached high performance storage arrays. For customers with high volume or high performance requirements, Hostway is positioning its offerings as an add-on storage solution to help cost-effectively augment internetal storage available with their dedicated or virtual server offerings.

“The new Shared SAN solution solves a significant problem for our customers” said Todd Benjamin, director of Enterprise Hosting. “Now server customers can access high performance, reliable, and virtually unlimited storage on a service basis as the needs of their businesses dictate.”

Web hosting and services provider Hostway has launched a reseller program. Resellers that sign up for the Hostway Tango offering before June 30, 2009 will have their first annual fee ($200 US if paying by credit card, $400 by check) waived. No information was immediately available on the website about the actual services that the fees included - not typically a very good sign.

Tango resellers can purchase Linux or Microsoft Windows hosting, hosted Microsoft Exchange and SharePoint, sell domain name registrations and a few more interesting add-ons, but again, not much information was present. This would be something to consider if you're one of the 600K HostWay customers and are interested in selling web hosting packages.

"We wanted to give resellers a complete platform that lets them start selling as few or as many products as their customers need and add to their offerings as their customers grow," said John Lee, senior vice president of small business hosting. "With Tango, resellers can offer their customers all the hosting products they need under one roof."

providers, is the on-demand automated allocation of CPU, memory, storage and
bandwidth for individual websites and greater reliability through
inherently redundant infrastructure architecture and deployment. This announcement is notable because Hostway is one of the first traditional web hosting companies to move into the cloud.

Hostway's 60,000 North American hosting customers' websites will be moved immediately to the new cloud computing infrastructure.

"The primary benefit of FlexCloud for business hosting clients is gaining access to a multi-million dollar ultra-reliable hosting infrastructure that scales up and down at your command for as low as $15 per month. The secondary benefit, for some this may be the primary benefit, is that Hostway has made it easy," said John Lee, senior vice president of small business hosting.

August 31, 2008.

The .Pro Red Carpet VIP Affair (which is just fancy marketing speak) will
allow customers to reserve their .Pro domain in advance of the relaunch for the
price of $49.95 per year. On September 8, Hostway will officially open
registration and all reserved names will become active.

I've been down on the .Pro extension because of its formerly rigorous
exclusivity. Originally .Pro registration was restricted to a limited
group of professionals in specific countries. Under ICANN's new guidelines, the
TLD is effectively available to all professionals, all over the world.

Hostway's subsidiary, RegistryPro, is the exclusive Internet registry for .Pro,
a TLD for licensed professionals and entities. RegistryPro's mandate has long
been to enable professionals to distinguish themselves on the Internet by using
the .Pro extension. "When RegistryPro announced in May that ICANN had
dramatically expanded the scope of the .Pro TLD - and relaxed the limitations
surrounding its use - Hostway was eager to be among the first to promote the
relaunch," stated Lyza Latham, director of marketing for Hostway.

Whether or not the .Pro extension is a must-have TLD for any professional
individual or organization is anyone's guess - I wouldn't hold out for a massive
registration rush though.
