Quickbooks maker Intuit announced the launch of GoPayment, an app for the iPhone and iPod touch used for processing credit card payments. Mobile payment apps seem to be the app du jour. Encore Payment Systems released an iPhone app for the clients last week.

The app enables business owners to processes customer credit card payments, view past charges and send customers electronic receipts via e-mail or text message. Users can also review transactions online and synchronize them with QuickBooks.

“More and more entrepreneurs are relying on their iPhone or iPod touch to manage their business,” said Chuck Harris, general manager of Intuit’s Payment Solutions. “With GoPayment this now includes getting paid. And they get the peace of mind knowing that GoPayment – both the app and the actual merchant account – come from Intuit, a company that has helped millions of people manage their finances for more than 25 years.”

The GoPayment App is available for free download from the App Store on iPhone and iPod touch or at www.itunes.com/appstore/. The app actually works on any carrier but you’ll need a mobile phone (some BlackBerry units, Sanyos and Palms) with Internet access. You can check your mobile phone’s compatibility at GoPayment.com.
