Webgility, which provides Quickbooks integrations for merchants, announced it is now part of the UPS Ready Program – completing the certification for its product eCommerceConnector (eCC). Merchants are continually looking for ways to make the shipping process more efficient (and less expensive) but there seems to be little in the way of development for the most part from the platform side.

Webgility previously supported UPS WorldShip, an application for PC’s that gave merchants the ability to access UPS services and generate UPS shipping labels. There were some limitations however, so as a certified UPS Ready software, eCC can integrate directly with UPS web services and provide shopping services directly from eCC.

"Our previous integration with UPS was dependent on the WorldShip software and the XML interface was limited. With UPS Direct, we can now provide a seamless integrated shipping experience for our customers and the feedback since launch has been tremendous. We're also able to provide multi-package, bulk shipping, tracking and address validation features which are essential for increasing fulfillment efficiency and reducing shipping errors," says Parag Mamnani, Founder and CEO of Webgility.

eCC enables eCommerce merchants to automate order fulfillment, inventory management and accounting process. The QuickBooks Gold certified software integrates with QuickBooks and QuickBooks Point of Sales, online shopping cart and marketplace platforms including BigCommerce, Magento, Pinnacle Cart, Amazon, and eBay to name a few, as well as payment processors like Authorize.net, PayPal, and QuickBooks Merchant Service) and major shipping processors (UPS, UPS WorldShip, etc.).

Small businesses and start-ups can find it tricky to maneuver their way through the various Web-based tools available to them in areas like communication, productivity, finance, and IT. With new products constantly being launched in all of these areas, BestVendor wanted to aid these companies in their search through a seemingly endless amount of options to find those tools that will work best for them.

The survey was conducted by asking 550 start-up executives and managers (all of whom work in companies with 100 people or less) which tools they preferred for various business and business-related functions. Almost half (45 percent) of the respondents work in Tech companies. As BestVendor's own chart says, after compiling the data, "a few themes clearly emerge."

Google Apps, at only $5 a month, was considered one of the leading service providers when it comes to running a business.

More and more, small businesses seem to be moving away from on-premise software to on-demand Web applications that can be accessed directly from a browser.

Overall, the results weren't spectacularly alarming. Broken down by category, Google Apps was the most popular for company email, Quickbooks won out in accounting, Google Analytics was considered the best for Web analytics, Salesforce was the mostly highly accepted for customer relationship management, Adobe CSS was the best for website design, Dropbox triumphed in the storage/backup/virtualization category, and PayPal came out as the top tool for payment processing.

The chart also includes a few "hidden gems" to help the office run a bit more smoothly, such as IdeaPaint, HipChat, and Pandora or Turntable.

The study also breaks down some of the categories further. More detailed results from productivity, finance & accounting, development & IT, design, and Web operations can be found in BestVendor's offical chart below.

Quickbooks maker Intuit announced the launch of GoPayment, an app for the iPhone and iPod touch used for processing credit card payments. Mobile payment apps seem to be the app du jour. Encore Payment Systems released an iPhone app for the clients last week.

The app enables business owners to processes customer credit card payments, view past charges and send customers electronic receipts via e-mail or text message. Users can also review transactions online and synchronize them with QuickBooks.

“More and more entrepreneurs are relying on their iPhone or iPod touch to manage their business,” said Chuck Harris, general manager of Intuit’s Payment Solutions. “With GoPayment this now includes getting paid. And they get the peace of mind knowing that GoPayment – both the app and the actual merchant account – come from Intuit, a company that has helped millions of people manage their finances for more than 25 years.”

The GoPayment App is available for free download from the App Store on iPhone and iPod touch or at www.itunes.com/appstore/. The app actually works on any carrier but you’ll need a mobile phone (some BlackBerry units, Sanyos and Palms) with Internet access. You can check your mobile phone’s compatibility at GoPayment.com.

Quickbooks will be free to all customers. Merchants can transfer data to their
Quickbooks database from the system, regardless of the payment gateway or
point-of-sale system used for payment processing.

After importing transaction information from their MerchantPortal™ users can
view graphical trend charts showing sales by month to track the progress of
their marketing efforts. Other reports show revenue growth, net profits, and
organized financial information to help companies keep their accounting data
organized. Currently the MerchantPortal™ only supports integration for exporting
records and importing into QuickBooks. Users benefit from QuickBooks integration
because it provides merchants with cost-effective credit card payment processing
at more affordable rates compared to relying solely on QuickBooks payment
processing.

"With the CDGcommerce QuickBooks integration feature, merchants can keep all of
their transaction information with their other company financial information,"
said West. "Everything can be in one place for easier access and enhanced
reporting features QuickBooks users already enjoy."

EPORIA Integrates With QuickBooks

Ecommerce service provider EPORIA has integrated its platform with Intuit's
