SortPrice has released some impressive statistics on the growth in retailers using its store application on Facebook.

"Last year, retailers across the board began to realize the importance of hopping on the social shopping bandwagon," said Asaf Klibansky, SortPrice's co-founder and CTO. "And as they have since 2008 when we introduced the Store Application, more merchants turned to SortPrice.com than anyone else to help them tap into the enormous audiences available to them on Facebook."

Nothing is more important than the actual performance metrics and those from Sortprice are quite interesting:

- More than $3.78 billion worth of merchandise was on SortPrice-built Facebook storefronts throughout 2010.

- More than 7.6 million were products on SortPrice merchants Facebook storefronts in 2010, 60 percent more total products than in 2009.

The top industry categories for merchants using the shopping application are apparel, womens jewely, home and garden, gifts and flowers, and computers.

Shopping search engine SortPrice is expanding its merchant store application on the Facebook Platform.

Available only to Sortprice merchants, the free application works with merchants' existing Sortprice product listings, allowing them to build virtual stores on Facebook. Recent enhancements enable shoppers to compile a wish list of items from a particular merchant's store that are viewable to all users and are the foundation for a truly interactive shopping experience. Visitors can comment on other users' wish lists, indicate particular items that they like, and even invite friends and family to check out wish lists or specific products.

While it's up for debate whether Facebook users are shopping on the social networking site or even adding products to wish lists, merchants using Sortprice should be using the app if only for the potential for additional exposure. Many of the service's current clients are currently using the app, including PetSmart, SpyTown, and AmericaRX. "Our sales are beginning to ramp up," said Rian Cool, outbound marketing manager of CharityUSA, one Sortprice merchant using the application. "Many people are on Facebook all day long, so it's kind of like having them on our store all day long. With how the application behaves, it's a huge plus for us to have a large volume of outbound links available on Facebook to our product landing pages."

"The positive response from merchants who have utilized this application since it was introduced eight months ago has been nothing short of tremendous," said Asaf Klibansky, Sortprice co-founder and CTO. "Many of them are witnessing substantial increases in traffic and sales, and with these improvements, those numbers should only continue to rise."

That might not be big news to those that use other shopping comparison engines, but if you're taking the time to customize a XML shopping feed with attributes such as color it's certainly worthy of note. Bidding on a keyword containing a refining descriptor such as the color could ultimately lead to a lower bid price and a lower cost per conversion.

The "Shop by Color" feature at SortPrice allows users to narrow a detailed product search by color, or shop for a product by color alone, such as green MP3 players, white women's sandals, or even red blenders. Product thumbnail images across the site can now be enlarged, along with the text of product descriptions, for easier reading and research. When consumers are cutting spending, you need every feature you can to get users comfortable and this is certainly a way to do that.

"In the five short years since we started this company, Sortprice has become a reliable online shopping partner for millions of people and a trusted ally among merchants," said Doron Simovitch, Sortprice co-founder and CEO. "These new tools, designed with the shopper in mind, represent our commitment to using cutting edge technology to give consumers the best online shopping experience available."
