ExecTweets launched this week in partnership with Federated Media and Microsoft powered by Twitter. The site is an aggregation of tweets by top executives in various fields. LinkedIn may be the place to be for professional social networking, and ExecTweets looks to provide the same professional atmosphere to Twitter users.

Executives are divided into six categories: Government and education; healthcare; media and advertising; other; retail; and, technology. Conversations rotate at the top right under a section called “Best of ExecTweets.” Users can follow executive level tweeters, as well as recommend executive tweeters. The site also provides a voting system for tweets – reminiscent of Digg.com.

The platform is currently editorial-only with no advertising because money is not exchanging hands. However, the brands are getting exposure by simply being listed as top executives on Twitter. Get your brand exposure by having a colleague recommend you at exectweets.com.

The problem with these resources is their arbitrary method of structuring the data they pull from through the Twitter API. Digg's Kevin Rose might have released what I consider to be a much better way with his new service WeFollow.com.

The WeFollow site lists the top Twitter members in various popular categories (e.g. Celebrity, Blogger, Tech, Music, Social Media, etc.), displaying the Twitterers in order of the number of followers they have. Seems a very democratic way to organize, right?

It's quick and simple to add a Twitter account into the WeFollow index - simply select “Add Yourself to WeFollow” on the We Follow homepage and you'll be redirected to your Twitter account. You'll then be asked to send message to @wefollow with up to three hash tags that describe or define you as a Twitterer. The message will be pre-populated with wefollow's twitter username and some directions as seen below:

WeFollow indexes pretty quickly. Website Magazine is currently ranked around #225 for blogger, and #6 for SEM - though one of the tags (SEO) that we should be ranking for has not made its way into the index yet. Overall, a great Web tool to find Twitter users to follow and promote your own agenda!

__________

What's One Great Idea Worth?
Upgrade to a professional-level membership from Website Magazine and find out!
