Popular open source content management and blogging platform WordPress, which now powers approximately 20% of Internet websites, has released version 3.8 - just two months after releasing version 3.7.
For those that follow these sort of things, Wordpress happened to name this version after famed bebop innovator Charlie Parker.
The most noteworthy development of the Parker (3.8) release is that Auttomatic/Wordpress is moving rapidly towards responsive design. For example, version 3.8 offers a new magazine-style, responsive theme and a backend (dashboard) that is also responsive. Other improvements include refined theme management as well as a smoother widget experience.
To manage the update of an open-source project with hundreds of contributors, Automattic and WordPress founder Matt Mullenweg indicated that major features were built as plug-ins, allowing individuals to iterate on their own before merging them into the codebase.
