Popular video-sharing service, Vimeo, has decided to kick off the New Year with a brand new video player.
The company rebuilt its video player to be more flexible and accommodating. In fact, the “re-engineered” back end of the new video player results in videos loading twice as fast, while the front end of the player is compatible with more devices. In addition, the new video player includes in-player purchasing, which allows users to rent or buy a Vimeo On Demand directly from embedded trailers. Other new features include a redesigned share screen and integrated login.
The most notable feature of the new player, however, is that it is now HTML5 by default. This means that everyone who has an HTML5-capable browser will get the HTML player. It is also important to note that through HTML5, any preferences that a user changes on the video player, such as HD, volume or scaling, will also be updated in all other video players open in the user's browser.
Lastly, Vimeo has added closed captions and subtitles support, which is currently available in all desktop players, mobile Safari on iOS 7, as well as Chrome on Android tablets and Kindle Fire.
