Last week, Techweek made its way to Website Magazine’s hometown of Chicago, bringing with it a variety of events and activities, from educational summits to delicious food truck face-offs.
There were quite a few companies and technologies that caught our editors’ attention, including companies that offer analytics to help brick-and-mortar retailers boost their bottom lines, technologies that ease the content discovery process for marketers and some just-plain-cool concepts. Read below to discover the seven 'tech-aways' we brought back from Techweek Chicago:
Hashtagr is a hashtag search engine created by three college students. The platform has been leveraged for more than 238,000 searches and has users in 130-plus countries. While Hashtagr’s functionality is pretty basic, it is a handy tool for social media managers. Through the platform, users can search for a specific hashtag across Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, Vine, Facebook and Google+, with other social networks, like Pinterest and YouTube, coming soon.
ActiveCampaign is an email marketing, marketing automation and CRM platform that enables users to create campaigns without any coding knowledge required. Through the platform, users can leverage autoresponders to send automated emails based on subscription date or contact data like birthday information. Moreover, the platform helps users connect their email campaigns to social marketing and website traffic, so that brands can leverage the data to create more personalized campaigns.
Pear is a platform that helps connect groups and sponsors. For example, the platform’s Nextdoor solution helps local businesses connect with groups for sponsorship opportunities. By being a part of the sponsorship program, the local business grows its social media presence because the group looking for the sponsorship promotes the local business in an attempt to score points toward their sponsorship goal.
While gift cards may not be the most exciting gift to receive, they are always useful. For customers, gift cards represent a free or discounted future purchase. For merchants, gift cards represent a quick and easy sale. Through Giftbar, merchants are able to sell their gift cards to a larger audience as well as give consumers the ability to decide on the amount of the gift card instead of only offering cards with predetermined prices.
Markr helps brands foster user-generated content for marketing initiatives. This is because Markr is a mobile app (for iOS and Android) that partners with brands and encourages consumers to share branded images. For example, Markr features a variety of brands that consumers can select from. Once a brand is selected, the consumer can take or upload a photo, which will be accompanied by a logo from the selected brand. Then consumers can edit and share the image onto social networks. Businesses who are interested in being featured on the app and fostering more user-generated content can become part of Markr’s brand network.
Shoppertrak is an in-store analytics solution for brick and mortar merchants. The platform offers perimeter, interior and performance analytics to help merchants increase their profit margins and customer satisfaction. Plus, Shoppertrak offers a feature called Sales Intercept that allows owners and managers to see if employees are engaging customers at the right locations.
With a simple concept and even simpler design, Product Hunt is a unique place for content marketers to both display and discover new content. Content marketers can also sign up to receive daily emails of new posted discoveries. Each post consists of three things: product name, tagline (a short description) and the URL to the product page.
