The role of search is to establish the shortest distance between what the customer likes and the content that they want that is relevant to them, according to Coveo CEO Louis Tetu.
The ability to control relevance within on-site search, however, is something many businesses, especially SMBs have not had access to in the past, simply because of the cost involved with out-of-the-box solutions or the time and money involved in hiring an army of developers to build this technology in-house.
For the first time (ever), Coveo is offering every Sitecore customer a full, free license of Coveo for Sitecore. Announced at the Sitecore Symposium in Las Vegas on Tuesday, dozens of companies have already registered for the free product. The free version of Coveo helps even the playing field for Sitecore sites, as, in the past, they were unequal if they had a poor search experience, according to Tetu.
Coveo is Sitecore’s largest global technology partner, and the free offering of Coveo is a win-win for both companies, as, according to Tetu in an interview with Website Magazine, it’s been a very good partnership for both. For example, Coveo builds on robust customer profiles that is inherent to Sitecore’s Experience Database. With this information, Coveo can personalize the search experience, because users are not only part of hyper-specific segments (e.g. business travelers), but also unique individuals who have likes and past behaviors that are leveraged to deliver completely personalized search results for them, according to context.
So what’s the catch with the free version of Coveo for Sitecore users? Of course the free version won’t have all the digital bells and whistles of the enterprise version of Coveo, but Coveo can monetize the free version by its added-on support option. The support option is not only a way for Coveo to monetize the product (as well as the future upgrades the free version will likely drive), but also gives businesses a support community where they can get Q&As and other information from the community of MVP-type users.
The free version of Coveo for Sitecore is available now, but will be rolled out to the entire infrastructure in mid-Oct.
