It has been challenging for large companies and brands to gather any truly useful intelligence from social media, and near impossible for many small and mid-size enterprises.

The technology solutions developed to address the problem up to this point have been lackluster at best, relying almost exclusively on crude keyword monitoring or basic hashtag discovery. There's more information about users that is available (such as images or sentiment), however, and a recently upgraded platform from social media monitoring and analytics solution Geeofeedia is focusing its attention on acquiring that data and making it useful for its clients.

Geofeedia's upgraded platform now collects "location-tagged" data, capturing and analyzing social media content from multiple networks including Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and other channels. Users are now able to gather very specific linsights about what is happening at or around their current location from these social networks, accessing a "stream" view of those location-tagged social media posts (from desktop devices or mobile with this iOS app). Geeofeedia users can also now create and monitor specific locations - a nice feature for those with multiple storefronts or brands.

“Our upgraded platform augments the value of social media as a powerful tool to get the pulse of any location around the world,” said Phil Harris, CEO and co-founder of Geofeedia. “Whether it’s to gain situational awareness in a crisis, maintain public safety at events or generate sales leads at retail outlets, we provide users with the most actionable intelligence in real time. Further setting Geofeedia apart from other social media monitoring technology, our app is the only way to easily empower users with geo-tagged real-time social media data on the go.”

Geofeedia, ranked as a high performer in G2 Crowd's Spring 2015 rankings, is really standing out among the top social media monitoring products with a few other interesting features. The new platform also added Chinese microblogging service Sina Weibo to its lineup, integrated with Salesforce, and even managed to upgrade it's platform capacity to process more than 10,000 posts per second (or 1 billion posts per day).

It's a good day to be in SoLoMo.
