1&1 has increased the flexibility of its already
industry-leading Dynamic Cloud Server (DCS), as configurations for “essential
features” (like CPU or RAM) can now be scaled hourly as needed.

According to the
company, this lets small and medium-sized businesses manage their IT needs in
the same efficient manner as major corporations with far more resources
dedicated to maintaining their infrastructures. Ultimately, this will lower IT
costs for smaller businesses.

By giving its users
a virtual server environment will full root access, DCS is able to increase the
adaptability of its solution for when users’ needs change over time. It also
allows them to switch between Windows- or Linux-based operating systems. All of
this makes it a strong option for larger companies with constantly fluctuating
resource requirements or small businesses who have difficulty judging how much
power they may need.

Upgrading or
downgrading the scale of a businesses IT needs while using DCS is an
intentionally simple process that can be completed in under five minutes, which
makes it even more useful for small businesses with little to no dedicated IT
department. 1&1 even offers iOS and Android mobile apps that let businesses
manage their IT needs on-the-go.

DCS is available for
a base price of $49 a month, which includes a processor core, 1 GB of RAM and
100 GB of hard disk space, with each additional core, GB of RAM and 100 MB of
disk space costing an extra 2 cents an hour. Currently, 1&1 is also running
a deal that allows anyone who orders a package in March to receive three months
free per cloud server.

More big news from Amazon Web Services (AWS) today. The company has just launched a new managed NoSQL database service called Amazon DynamoDB to improve database scalability.

Apparently, the company was inspired to create DynamoDB because it felt that traditional databases just weren't adequately prepared to scale to the needs of modern applications.

AWS says that customers using DynamoDB will be able to launch a database table quickly and manage the scale of the system's capacity up or down with no downtime or performance degradation. DynamoDB will automatically partition and re-partition data anytime it's needed to meet the latency and throughput requirements put forth by different applications.

All data in the new database will be stored on SSDs and replicated across multiple AWS Availability Zones in an AWS region to help provide the highest availability and performance possible.

"Amazon has spent more than 15 years tackling the challenges of database
scalability, performance and cost-effectiveness using distributed
systems and NoSQL technology," says Amazon CTO Werner Vogels. "Amazon DynamoDB is the result of everything we’ve learned from building
large-scale, non-relational databases for Amazon.com and building highly
scalable and reliable cloud computing services at AWS."

DynamoDB will be offered with pay-as-you-go pricing.
