The Mobile World Congress in Barcelona brought a ton of new mobile ventures to the table. One of the more exciting ones is OneConnect, Yahoo's latest evolution of their mobile services. OneConnect allows users to manage email, IM, text messaging and social networks all from the same platform. Taking a contact from you list, you can message them in a variety of formats, and even check your friends status, new photo uploads and recent activity on social networks.

The system comes with an open API, so developers will be able to create plugins for new ways to communicate. As of now, users will be able to access others via SMS, AIM, MSN Messenger, social networks - and you don't have to be a subscriber to these services. OneConnect will also feature location-sensing technology, alerting a user when one of their contacts enters their vicinity.

Mobile Web pages and mobile Internet surfing are nice, but boundless communication - that's what the mobile Web is truly about. OneConnect is expected to be available in Q2 2008.
