GadgetTrak has added a new product to their mobile device theft recovery systems, now PCs and laptops can be recovered while keeping user information private.

From the press release: GadgetTrak Founder Ken Westin stated, "It has been the most requested solution
by our customer base, but we wanted to make sure we had solution that would both
protect the system in the event of theft, as well our customers' privacy. I
don't think people realize just how invasive some of the existing PC solutions
are, or what information is being collected and stored regarding their
movements."
It works like this: If your PC is moved to a new location, GadgetTrak will find its precise location, including the IP address being used, internal network address, host names and ISP data and sends it to you. Now, if your Mac is stolen, GadgetTrak utilizes the built-in iSight camera to start recording the thief as he/she starts using the computer and sends an email to the owner, as well as the ability to integrate with your Twitter account. For mobile phones, if a new SIM card is inserted, PhoneBak will silently send SMS messages to pre-defined numbers with information such as the new number of your phone, GSM area code and cell ID (GSM Localization).
It's recommended that you contact authotities in the event of any theft - and not turn vigilante.
