Downward-spiraling Yahoo is tapping into what's arguably their most popular service to keep users and attract new ones - email. They have opened up ymail.com and rocketmail.com email addresses to users who want them. It's an effort to simplify email addresses for people so that you don't end up with YourName1974@yahoo.com as your email address. Now it's more likely that YourName@ymail.com or @rocketmail.com will be available. Rocketmail harkens back to the early days of Yahoo, when they purchased Four11, the original rocketmail provider.

The big question is, what's easier for your friends to remember: YourName1974@yahoo or YourName@ymail or rocketmail? Chances are just about everybody has heard of @yahoo but just about noone will know of @ymail or @rocketmail.

Yahoo has also claimed a "rolling thunder of announcements" in the next six months, all surrounding their email services.
