Flickr Teams Up With Getty Images

Yahoo's Flickr and Getty have partnered up and this could mean potential revenue for all the shutterbugs out there. The deal allows Getty to contact Flickr members directly to request images for a special Flickr-branded Getty collection. According to early reports, if you are contacted by Getty, you will have to sign a contributor contract that states you as the owner of the photo and sets rates for purchase based on sizes and intended commercial usage. The Flickr blog states that, "Flickr are joining forces to create a collection of royalty free, rights ready and rights managed photographs."

Yahoo does not appear to be involved in the business transaction, so it's unclear how they will profit from the arrangement.

Expect further details later. Also according to the Flickr blog this will all happen soon. "If you’ve been a member for some years, you’ll know that we’re rather “mum” on information about when new features will launch. Soon can mean tomorrow, next month or even two years from now. We’re hoping that the Flickr Collection on Getty Images will debut later this year."
