We all know the importance of extending our brands into the social networks, and Twitter is no exception. It can be a great way to connect with consumers (read about Twittering with consumers) and maintain a level of control over what's being said about your company. Unfortunately, there's a lot more to running a business than chattering on social networks all day.
That's where Twilert comes in. This service will send you an email when your company, brand, or basically any keyword(s) you choose are mentioned on Twitter. It's an easy way to stay on top of the Twitterverse while attending to the more pressing needs of your company. There is, however, one glaring problem. The most frequently you can receive alerts is once per day. When dealing with Twitter, timing is essential. For example, if someone posts a negative tweet about your company, you want to get on top of the situation before it spins out of control. If you're being alerted just once every 24 hours, that could be a problem. So, Twilert might be better suited for general reports of what's being Twittered, rather than a way to keep instant tabs on your business image.
But there is another way to manage your Twitter reputation, almost in real time. Go to search.twitter.com, and enter your company name. Then, at top right you'll see an RSS button. Grab the feed and put it into your reader and you can get a constant feed of your search query - your business name, or anything else.
