    What (analytics) do you use?

What website analysis program do you use?

Primarily on sites we've designed we use StatCountex.  I have seen people use AWStats (if you don't mind setting up perl scripts, cgi-bin, parsing log files, and remembering to adjust your results back however many hours your away from Greenich.  Google has a pretty good one, too.

i have a google analytics account, but i recently read this article http://www.imediaconnection.com/content/21144.asp so i won't be putting too much faith in their reports. i personally have a site hosted through yahoo and their reports are pretty thorough.

    Re: What do you use?

I think you have to take each one with a grain of salt, since there are some innacuracies in each analytics solution.

I like Google Analytics since its easy to deploy and has some advanced features, but I also check AWStats which luckily most cPanels enable by default.

Taking both metrics gives me a good idea of what is going on at any of our or our customers' sites.

And those are the free ones of course... you could easily go to WebTrends and the paid analytics solutions but personally for most sites I don't see why you would. Unless your client is a very large company and has dedicated resources to analyzing these metrics.

    Re: What do you use?

That's a chilling article about Google Analytics inaccuracy in Kristen's post. We switched from Webtrends to GA because of the high cost of upgrading Webtrends, and did notice quite a difference in the basic numbers - makes historical view impossible. One of the article comments suggested GA is off by as much as 48% on visits.

Re: What (analytics) do you use?

Even when Google Analytics has a few flaws, it is true that for a free service the platform is very very usefull.

I use GA but I also have a payment service called Xiti (http://www.xiti.com/en/home.aspx) its not that cheap but the system has a lot of features (click zone) the only problem I see is that since its a french company some of the translations to english are wrong.

But anyway, they just launched a free option, obviously it doesn't have that many features but its quite good.

Google Analytics and Webmaster Tools are good, as well as AW Stats. I also like ClickTracks. I'm constantly trying out others and learning new applications.

Re: What (analytics) do you use?

I know I've mentioned Googl analytics before, but here's some more I have been using:

    Website Grader
This SEO tool measures the marketing effectiveness of a website based on an extensive list of pre-determined categories. It will also report a comparison to competition websites of your choice.

    Errorlytics
This service reviews your website for possible 404 errors after a re-launch. It's reporting function is quick and easy, allowing for corrections to be made immediately. Since I am constantly updating the ISA website, I check this site every so often to ensure I didn't miss anything.

    Who Links To Me
One of the most effective methods of increasing online presense is back-links. This site offers detailed reports on where the back links are coming from. I can monitor progress on a regular basis to make sure our back links are increasing and which pages are the most used for anchors.

    Atomz Site Search
I use Atomz for the search box on our website for customer ease, but it offers monthly reporting that has proven very usefull. The report contains a list of all the words typed into the search box. I then test each word to make sure the most logical page appears in the results page. If I find that a page that should appear in the results is not, I can then make corrections to the copy and META data to ensure our users will find what they need.

I am a fan of Google Analytics and have been for some time.  While I have tried other packages, Google offers fairly robust functionality that continues to grow.

Re: What (analytics) do you use?

Having used AWStats, Webtrends, HBX, Google Analytics and Omniture SiteCatalyst, I can say that SiteCatalyist provides the most complete metrics solution for my needs. I'm wearing a number of marketing hats, so I'm using it for everything from effective management of SEM initiatives to analyzing trends in visitor experience (particularly in identifying failures) to remarketing based on consumer engagement. HBX was a close second, but doesn't provide nearly the breadth of services. Google Analytics has come a long way (and truth be told, I still use it for some microsites), but you do get what you pay for there... and Google gets a lot more. I was never a fan of WebTrends; I've replaced it twice with other solutions.

Re: What (analytics) do you use?

Is something wrong with Google Analytics??  Is there something better??  I've used another program (don't remember the name) but since using Google Analytics, I haven't seen a need to find anything different!  Please let me know if I SHOULD be looking at something else!

Re: What (analytics) do you use?

We use Google Analytics too, as many others who have replied. It is really functional and easy to set up and use. However, I recently have noticed weird results in the reports, which caused me to question its accuracy.

Due to the nature of the communication between browsers and web servers, I would not expect 100% accuracy because various statistics depend on assumptions. But I guess I will try the programs mentioned here.
